Josh Koscheck: Out For 6 Months, and Bored
Josh Koscheck, in his first public appearance since his loss to George St. Pierre at UFC 124, discussed with MMAjunkie about his injury that occurred during the fight, and his plans following the injury.
In the battle with Pierre, Koscheck suffered a broken orbital bone leading him to undergo surgery just nine days after the fight before returning home to Fresno, California.
"George beat me fair and square that night," Koscheck told MMAjunkie. "He's a better fighter, but I think that the first punch of the fight was when I broke my eye. So I thought that it was definitely bad luck on my behalf. That's life. He threw the punch, and it was a good punch. I definitely think the fight would have been a lot different if that wasn't the case."
Koscheck said he would be out for at least six months following the surgery, while doctors have limited his activities to walking. During this down-time, he plans on focusing his efforts on running his gyms back in his hometown.
"It's boring as hell," Koscheck said. "I can see why people want to fight for longer than ever. I'm like, 'What the hell do I do?'"
Koscheck hasn’t let the injury sway his determination towards to UFC welterweight title as he plans on aggressively getting back on track after recovery.
"I'll continue to grind and build my way up to being the No. 1 contender and put myself back in the position. Right now, that's so far away for me. I still have five months of recovery."
