Aldo Ill In His Title Defense Against Hominick

UFC Featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, managed to get by his recent challenger, Mark Hominick, this past Saturday at UFC 129 earning a unanimous decision. Unfortunately for Aldo fans, they were expecting an early finish rather than the current title-holder squeaking by on the judges’ scorecards. People that had seen Aldo fight in the past were probably confused by his performance in this fight. Even UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, commented about Aldo having a difficult weight cut, and nearly fainting at the “Super 7” event just a day prior to the fight.

A recent translation of a conversation (in Portuguese) between he and his coach after the fight may offer a better reason – rather than simply a challenging weight cut - for Aldo’s performance. Aldo argued with his coach at the termination of the bout, that he should have taken antibiotics prior to his fight with Hominick.

"The antibiotics wouldn't have helped!”Aldo’s coach responded as they prepared for the announcement of the judges’ scorecards.“You're the [expletive] champion man! [Expletive] the antibiotics! You fought well, smooth and composed."

Even though Aldo was likely ill, he still managed to defend his title. Aldo will now have to heal quickly so he can begin preparing immediately for his next opponent which is tentatively being scheduled for UFC 133 this August.

"Chad Mendes is 10-0,” UFC President, Dana White said of Aldo’s probable next challenger.“He's undefeated. It makes sense."
