Carwin to Replace Lesnar Vs. Dos Santos

The UFC has once again been struck with the injury epidemic announcing the withdrawal of Brock Lesnar from his UFC 131 main event fight against Junior Dos Santos. The information came only a week after the UFC announced the cancellation of its UFC 130 main event lightweight title rematch between champion, Frankie Edgar, and challenger, Gray Maynard.

According to MMAJunkie, the UFC President, Dana White, announced the former heavyweight champion pulled out of the fight due to another case of diverticulitis.

TUF 13 coaches Lesnar and Dos Santos were originally slated to fight at the end of the Spike TV reality series at UFC 131 for the number one heavyweight contender slot in which the winner would be next in line for a title shot against current champion, Cain Velasquez.

Unlike UFC 130, the UFC was able to salvage the main event by replacing Lesnar with former heavyweight challenger, Shane Carwin.

Lesnar has stated that the illness is not as severe as the first case experienced in 2009, and he is not yet considering retirement.

“I’ve just got to find the right solution to fix this problem,” said Lesnar.
