More Questions Of GSP/Silva Super-Fight

It is still unclear whether or not the super-fight between UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre, and UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, will ever happen. At this point, neither fighter probably has the event on their mind, as Anderson Silva prepares for Yushin Okami later this year and St. Pierre recovers from his recent title defense against Jake Shields this past Saturday at UFC 129.

St. Pierre was victorious in his fight, but took some damage on the road to victory.  In addition to some facial swelling and some cuts on the bridge of his nose, St. Pierre suffered an eye poke from Shields early in the fight which landed him in the hospital for fear that his retina had detached. After further inspection, St. Pierre’s eye condition isn’t as bad as it could have been and will heal with minor medication in about 10 days.

Meanwhile, St. Pierre is working on healing and isn’t considering his next fight including the one that will require him to climb up to middleweight.

“Right now, (the idea of moving to middleweight) is very superficial because we haven’t had time to really think about it.” said St. Pierre’s trainer, Firas Zahabi.Jake Shields was such a big priority; now that the fight is over, Georges is on vacation, and once he gets back, we’ll all sit down and talk. I will talk to his management and the other coaches and see what Zuffa and his management comes up with. For me, my main concern is to prepare him for his fights, whoever it is. If it’s another welterweight fighter or a middleweight fighter, we will prepare accordingly.”

If the super-fight with Anderson is to happen, one concern is the size discrepancy between the two and the time concerned for St. Pierre to properly bulk up.

“It would take a long time (to add the size),” said St. Pierre.Anderson Silva is a huge guy; he’s weighing around 230 pounds. He’s very big. Even when he fights as a light heavyweight, he looks bigger than the other guys.”

According to Zahabi, St. Pierre’s weight jump won’t be as drastic as some people are making it out to be. Zahabi even suggested the idea of a catch weight bout leveling the playing field and bringing the responsibility to both fighters to meet weight in the middle.

“(St. Pierre will) be very small for a middleweight,” Zahabi told ESPN.com. “If I balloon him up to over 200 pounds, it won’t do any good. There’s a point where you can have too much muscle and it’s not a good thing. I think he’s got the maximum amount you can put on his body without it starting to be detrimental.

“If he goes up [to 185], I would recommend he stay the same size. You don’t want Georges to go in there bulked up and unable to perform in the mechanical way that he does.

“It’s up to Zuffa and George’s management to decide (the fight details). I’ll focus on preparing him, but I think it would be wiser to be at a catchweight because it would be more fair.”

Fans will still have to wait to see what the UFC has planned for the future. Meanwhile in order for the super-fight to be a possibility, Anderson Silva will still have to defend his title at the UFC Rio event in August against Yushin Okami.

It would either be a early knockout if Silva won or prob a decision if Gsp won

GSP would win the fight with a five round decision. In the past Silva has had trouble with wrestlers such as Henderson and Sonnen. Anderson shows a lack of takedown defense against world class wrestlers and GSP lands a higher percent of his takedowns than anyone else in the UFC. Silva won those fights with his ju-jitsu, but i believe St. PIerre would be able to stifle any of his submission attempts. So in my opinion this would be a long boring fight that goes to decision with GSP's unmatched cardio and his relentless pressure earning him the nod. Then again what do i know im just a 19 year old guy with a real obsession for the sport lol. There would be a good chance of Silva's size and insane striking getting him a early tko/ko. Whatever the results this is surely a fight i'd have no problem throwing down fifty dollars to see.
