Penn And Condit Agree To Fight Via Twitter

After fighting to a three round draw at UFC 127, B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch were immediately scheduled for a rematch at UFC 132, but an injury to Fitch led to his withdrawal from that match. Rising welterweight, Carlos Condit quickly called to replace Fitch, but Penn withdrew from the event with an injury of his own prior to any plans ever being made between the two.

Plans for a rematch between Fitch and Penn were never officially scrapped and fans have been led to believe that the bout was still forthcoming. Penn recently spilled via his Twitter account however, that UFC fight maker, Joe Silva, has decided not to proceed with the rematch and has moved in a different direction.

@jonfitchdotnet tried to make it happen,” tweeted Penn, “but Joe Silva said ‘the fans don't want it & I'm not interested’. Not much more I can do on my end.

Meanwhile, this news lined up perfectly for previously mentioned Carlos Condit who with a masterful knockout over previously undefeated, Dong Hyun Kim, at UFC 132 apparently earned enough respect to finally call out a guy of Penn’s caliber.

Condit tweeted earlier, “The people have spoken @bjpenndotcom, they want to see us scrap, let's give em what they asked for.”

This time, Condit’s request was quickly responded to with Penn tweeting, @CarlosCondit Yup. Let's do it! October 29th.”

The date of the fight has yet to be confirmed, but the October 29th event refers to UFC 137 which is expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and is currently scheduled to be headlined by current welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre attempting to defend his title against former Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nick Diaz. Amazingly, the winner of this fight will likely be next in line to fight the winner of that welterweight title fight.
