UFC 133: Evans Vs. Ortiz
UFC 133: Evans Vs. Ortiz kicks off on Saturday, August 06 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia headlined by a rematch bout between former light heavyweight champions Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz. The match will be extremely important in the light heavyweight division; Evans with a win should finally receive his shot to reclaim the title against the winner of Jon Jones and ‘Rampage’ Jackson. While Tito has not been promised a title shot with a victory, UFC president Dana White has said with a win over Ryan Bader at UFC 132 and Rashad Evans, Tito would definitely be in the discussion.
The co-main event will feature former contender, Vitor Belfort taking on Yoshihiro Akiyama in a battle for middleweight posturing. Belfort, who recently lost to current champion Anderson Silva would like another opportunity. Akiyama on the other hand, after first winning thirteen of his first fourteen career fights, will now look to rebound from two consecutive losses against Chris Leben and Michael Bisping.
The pay-per-view event will also include Dennis Hallman taking on eight-fight win streak, Brian Ebersole, Jorge Rivera battling Costantinos Philippou and Rory MacDonald looking to prove his worth against Mike Pyle while both men seek to posture themselves towards welterweight contention.
Meanwhile, the preliminary fight card is a can’t miss featuring Chad Mendes vs. Rani Yahya with the winner sending themselves into discussion for a title shot against the winner of current champion Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian, a crushing battle between knockout artists Johny Hendricks and Mike Pierce, and former WEC featherweight champion, Mike Brown battling it out with Nam Phan for UFC featherweight relevance.
