UFC 139: Live Results and Play-by-Play
UFC 139 featuring some of the best PRIDE veterans kicks off tonight in San Jose, California featuring former PRIDE champions Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua vs. Dan Henderson. The event will also include fights between Wanderlei 'The Axe Murderer' Silva and Cung Le, Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles, Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story and Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury.

MAIN CARD:
Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury
Rd1- Kingsbury opens with inside leg kick. Both men engaging. Kingsbury left hook and clinches taking Bonnar to the cage. Men trading knees in clinch Kyle delivering more of them. Kinsbury separates with a punch. Bonnar caught Kyle with a dizzing blow and a low kick from Bonnar causes a momentary pause. Fighters reset, and fighters begin trading blows. Kyle again with the clinch and trading knees. Bonnar attempts a leg sweep but Kyle just falls on top of him. Both men stand. Kyle punishes Bonnar for the trade. Bonnar transitions near Kyle's back and serves it back to him. Bonnar shoots for a take down, and Kyle stikes him on the attempt causing Bonnar to stand dizzy for a moment. Great round with a lot of action as both men continue to trade blows and momentum. Bonnar in the clinch able to take Kyle to the mat into side control with a minute still to go. Bonnar pulls full mount and tries to punish Kyle. Kyle gives up his back and Bonnar punishes him as the round comes to a close which edges the round in Bonnar's favor 10-9.
Rd2- Kyle opens the round as the aggressor tossing kicks in with jabs. Kyle blocks a headkick. Kyle with a body kick caught by Bonnar allows Bonnar to take Kyle's back. Bonnar drags Kyle to the fence, drops low and takes the fight to the mat. Bonnar now has Kyle's right arm trapped and uses it to pass to side control. Bonnar is up high and dropping short punches as Kyle can only cover up. Bonnar continues aggressive work and Kyle seems helpless for an escape. Bonnar near a crucifix, but Kyle pulls his arm free. Bonnar grabs hold of a guillotine, shoots to mount, but Kyle won't let him get it. Seconds left, Bonnar gives up on submission attempts and decides to punish Kyle instead for the final seconds. 10-9 Easy for Bonnar.
Rd3- Bonnar clinches, drops Kyle to the mat, Kyle tries to stand gives up his back. Bonnar takes ahold and drops him back to the floor and turns Kyle's back to the floor. Bonnar working on positioning in side control. The crowd doesn't understand the strategy involved as they begin the moan. Bonnar has Kyle's right arm trapped and punishing Kyle again with short punches. Elbows to the body. Bonnar punishes Kyle for the bulk of the round. Seconds left, and Bonnar stands and drops a final few blows. The crowd again boos and Bonnar appologizes unessecarily. Dominant performance by Bonnar 30-27.

Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story
Rd1- Story attacks forward and starts swinging for the big shot. Kampmann counters but then circles out. Story with a big body shot backing Kampmann to the cage. Story follows with a big shot hurting Kampmann. Kampmann escapes and Story stalks. Men in the center of the cage and Story's pace slowing a bit. Big body shot from Story again. Men trading jabs, Kampmann throws a high kick that is checked. Story continues with his blows to the body. Kampmann forward with a quick left. Story with a left of his own. Kampmann lands a right. Kampmann finding comfort now that Story is slowing. Left from Story. Kampmann swinging, Story clinches, shot to the body as Kampmann throws a knee. Kampmann did better later in the round, but Story still earned the 10-9.
Rd2- Kampmann now picking his shots wisely from a distance. Story sticking with body shots, but a right from Kampmann backs up Story. Kampmann with another right and misses a headkick. Story forward with bombs just missing, finishes with body shots as Kampmann hits the fence. Kampmann circles out back to the center of the cage. Continued striking and composure from Kampmann. Kampmann shoots and gets the takedown. Kampmann attempting the same triangle he used to submit Drew McFedries. Story desperately trying to avoid danger. Kampmann with short rights to end the round. Kampmann 10-9.
Rd3- Story comes out this round with a flurry and a huge body shot. Kampmann backs into the cage. Kampmann moves out and pushes Story to the fence, ducks low and looks to drop Story to the mat. Story with great defense. Kampmann dops him, but Story immediately to his feet. Story escapes and back to the center. Story back to his body shots. Kampmann shoots, Story defends and gives a knee. Story with a take down of his own, but Kampmann wallwalks back to his feet. Kampmann with a combination, clinches and delivers a few good knees. Fighters against the cage fighting for position, Kampmann passes to Story's back. Kampmann clinches and throws Story to the mat, but immediately back up to his feet.Story now with a takedown of his own, but Kampmann again wallwalks back immediately. Story gives up his back once again, Kampmann drags Story to the mat and grabs for a rear naked, but there's not enough time left in this one. 10-9 Kampmann for the 29-28 win.

Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles
Rd1- Faber pawing out distance, Bowles misses left jab. Leg kick from Faber counter right from Bowles. Faber shoots, Bowles evades. Bowles forward with body shots, Fabers throws a heavy combo that Bowles just ducks under. Faber pressing forward, Leg kick from Bowles, but Faber counters. Faber with a big combo that appears to momentarily hurt Bowles, Bowles forward with a combo of his own, but Faber escapes and presses forward again. Faber forward, knee from Bowles, Faber throws Bowles to the cage. Men separate. Faber shoots, and slams Bowles to the mat. Bowles has a guillotine, but can't hold on. Faber trying to punish Bowles. Bowles backs to the cage and tries to use it to stand. Faber pulls Bowles away from the cage, stands and waits to drop in for a punch just missing as the round closes. 10-9 for Faber.
Rd2- Faber forward with an uppercut that crushes Bowles. Faber attacks, a huge knee sinks Bowles to the mat. Faber jumps on top and tries to tee off. Ref warns Bowles to defend. Bowles tries to stand. Faber big knee to the body. Big elbow. Faber to side control and a huge punch. Faber locks in a guillotine and holds tight forcing Bowles to tap. Dominant performance by Faber giving him another shot at the bantamweight title against champion, Dominick Cruz.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le
Rd1- Le opens the aggressor pressing forward.threatening kicks and then pushes a punching combo. Silva waits for his next advance and then counters heavy catching Le. Silva attacks, and it looks like Le is hurt, but Le evades. Le attacks forward and dizzies Silva, but he escapes. Le now throws a high kick blocked. Le with a spinning back kick lands. Silva wobbles. Le with a spinning back kick that misses. Silva walks away, and Le with another spinning back kick that lands again wobbling Silva. Inside leg kick from Silva. Side kick from Le. Kick to the body from Le. Silva looking for a counter, but Le staying distanced. Le with a kick to the chest. Silva presses forward and Le with a big right. Another sidekick from Le. high kick misses for Le. Silva with a body kick. Pair of inside leg kicks from Silva. Silva attacks and Le is forced to back up. Silva connects and Le is up against the cage as Silva attacks with seconds to go. Silva made that round close, but Le earned the 10-9 early.
Rd2- Le attacks, Silva loses his balance and falls backwards. Le with a sidekick. Another telegraphed kick and Silva easily avoids it. Silva with a round kick. Men trade combos both appearing to land big rights simultaneous. Le with an axe kick that misses. Body kick from Le. Le the older man appears to be slowing. Le attacks forward and Silva with a big right hook. Silva with a body kick. Le inside leg kick. Le forward and Silva gain with a right and attacks forward. Nice flurry from Silva and then circles out. Side kick from Le sends Silva backwards. Leg kick from Le. Pace of the fight has slowed. Just as thats said, Silva forward with a big flurry, knee to the body. Big right drops Le. Le back to his feet. Silva clinches, big knees to Le's head. More knees. Le escapes, Silva clinches again, another big knee. and another, Le drops, Silva tees, and the Ref jumps to his rescue.

Maurício Rua vs. Dan Henderson
Rd1- Rua leg kick. Hendo leg kick as he ducks under a Rua right. Rua throws an uppercut but is nailed first. Shogun drops Hendo down, but Hendo grabs a guillotine and uses it to stand. Rua escapes, but Hendo punishes him heavy teeing off. Rua bloodied early. Rua attacks, big right from Hendo drops Rua to his knees, Hendo again trying to tee off. Rua grabs onto Hendo and pulls himself up on him. Hendo pushes Rua off, and Hendo falls helplessly to the mat. hendo lets him stand. Rua with a knee. Hendo attacking forward, Rua covers up and backs up. Leg kick from Rua. Rua shoots for a takedown, engages in clinch against the fence, separates with an elbow. Hendo stalking. Hendo with another right. Hendo right left. Rua with a right lands drops Hendo to the mat. Rua drops to tee off. Hendo holds on to Rua's leg to regain. Hendo stands with Rua and lands as he separates. Rua looking for an uppercut. Right by Hendo. Ruo closes distance and clinches against the fence. Knees to the thigh from Rua. 10-9 Henderson.
Rd2- Left jab from Rua. Leg kick from Rua. Left jab from Hendo. Rua forward, Hendo ducks under, delivers a knee, Rua clinches, knee of his own and takes the fight to the cage. Rua with knees to the thigh. Rua separates with a right, and hendo attacks forward. Hendo with a BIG right, uppercut, left hook as Rua covers up against the cage! Hendo backs out, but still has Rua backed to the cage. Leg kick from Hendo and Ruo counters with a right. Hendo and Rua each miss huge rights the other ducking under. Rua driving forward with a flurry, nothing landing as Hendo backs into the cage. Hendo transitions away and unloads. Rua looks a little wobbly as fighters clinch once again. Both men resting during this period. Body shot by Hendo. Reset to the center. Right from Shogun, Hendo ducks under another and delivers a right left of his own. Both men chasing the knockout right. 10-9 Hendo.
Rd3- Rua misses a huge uppercut just skimming. Flurry from both fighters. Hendo throwing a couple uppercuts getting blocked. Rua wobbles Hendo, but hendo continues forward. Hendo grabs ahold of Rua shoots for a single, drags Rua to the mat, but Rua bounces right back to his feet. Hendo pawing out left jab while. Big right by Hendo drops Rua. Hendo jumps and big shots to Rua. Rua is not defending himself, but the ref lets it continue. Hendo warned for shots to the back causing him to slow. Rua is hurt and trying to roll away, but Hendo continues. Rua grabs hold of Hendo's ankle as Hendo tries to stand and holds on tight lesnar/Mir style. Hendo finally escapes and stands. Rua follows him back to his feet and clinch against the cage. Both men are wasted, and Rua's face looks like a traffic accident! Hendo's back to the cage. Rua with a elbow shot. Hendo with big elbows to the side of Rua's head. Rua drags Hendo down and starts pounding away, but Hendo back to his feet into the clinch. Rua just misses a huge elbow and fires a shot as they separate and the round closes. 10-9 Hendo.
Rd4- Two more rounds left. Can Hendo make it cardio wise? Rua grabs a single, takes Dan to the mat, Dan back to his feet. Rua drops him to a seated position, but Hendo stands and has Rua's back, Rua rolls over, and Hendo has a crucifix, Rua escapes, Hendo grabs a rear-naked, can;'t hold on, Rua escapes, men back to their feet. Pawing away at jabs, Hendo shoots and gets the takebown. Henderson pulls a guillotine, but can't hold on. Hendo in Rua's guard, big right. hendo stands, and drops a big right, another, Rua rolls over, Hendo big knee to the body. Rua escapes, back to their feet. Rua couple of jabs, uppercut from Rua. Hendo ducks under a right as he breaths deeply. Big shot by Rua, and Hendo wobbles big, Hendo moves away, shoots, but can't get the takedown. Rua moving forward lands another. How are either of these men still standing? Rua now firing and landing at will. Rua grabs onto Hendo, and Hendo lazily allows Rua to take him down. Rua full mount, Hendo trying to survive, hendo gives up his back, Rua for a choke, loses is as Hendo transitions to the top as the round comes to a close! 10-9 Rua! GREAT FIGHT SO FAR AND ONE MORE TO GO!
Rd5- Dan's corner warns him to clinch and avoid exchanging. Hendo appears wobbly before the round begins. Hendo loads for a right, but doesn't commit. Hendo shoots, both men fall to the mat, Rua rolls Hendo to his back. Rua in side control. Big knee to the body. Rua full mount. Rua teeing off as Hendo tries to fire in defense. Hendo is spent. Dan clinches to defend. Rua lifts again to tee as Hendo pulls his legs out and escapes the mount. Rua back to half guard. Rua back to full mount and tees again as Hendo gives up his back to escape. Hendo on his side as he tries to hip escape. Two minutes left. Big shot by Shogun and Dan rolls over trying to take lesser damage. Hendo is trying to wait out this final round. Rua with hammerfists, but Dan hip escapes out and back to half guard. Mount again. Thirty seconds remaining. Rua punching, but nothing hard enough to cause a finish. AMAZING FIGHT! 10-8 for Rua and MMA30 has this fight scored a draw! WE NEED A REMATCH!

KYLE KINGSBURY: "I just got my ass kicked in front of the hometown crowd. It sucks. I got a great camp, great coaches and great teammates. I'll get back on top. I'm going to get right back into the gym and focus on fixing things that didn't go so well tonight."
